We specialise in landscape design for coastal and Kāpiti environments, working across both new builds and garden transformations.
How we work
Every project begins with listening. We learn how you want to live in your garden, how light moves across your site, and what the land already does well.
We design in layers. Light shapes the layout. Life shapes the experience. Strength is built into the structure, planting and materials so the garden matures with age.
Our process moves from an on-site consultation to concept design, then detailed planting and hardscape plans, with advisory or full project management available as needed.
Meet the people
Pingao Lane Landscape Design is owned by Jo and Alan Innes—a husband-and-wife team with more than 30 years of hands-on experience creating gardens across the lower North Island, New Zealand. Together, we bring a balance of design creativity, practical know-how, and a deep respect for the environment.
Jo Innes - Principal Landscape Designer
Jo is the creative force behind our landscape designs. Jo enjoys designing landscapes that are not only visually striking but also purposeful —designed to be lived in and loved.
With a Diploma in Landscape Design from the Anna Gresham Landscape Design School (Nelson, NZ), she offers a robust approach to landscape design. She also holds a current Prince2 project management qualification. Applying a structured approach to project management, ensures projects are delivered as expected, on time and to budget.
Alan Innes - Site & Implementation Specialist
Alan’s background in agricultural science and environmental management adds strength and depth to our designs. With a Degree in Agricultural Science from Massey University, he brings decades of experience in catchment management, soil conservation, and land-based systems.
Alan also brings a practical edge to hardscape planning, offering knowledge of materials and building practices, along with pragmatic problem solving.
